Our practices at Oadby and Wigston are one of the first Opticians in the area to offer its patients the Optomap™ Panoramic200™ Retinal Imaging System retinal exam. This revolutionary modality captures and analyses an image of virtually the entire retina without dilation, for the early detection and management of eye disease. As a result, you will not experience blurred vision or sensitivity to light following your eye exam. (Dilation results in thirty minutes of waiting and 4 or more hours of blurred vision). Since Optos first introduced the Optomap exam, nearly 250,000 exams have been conducted worldwide, diagnosing serious eye conditions – such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and melanomas – that could have otherwise gone undetected.

Obtaining Optomap retinal images is comfortable, quick and very simple. By looking into an eyepiece, at the push of a button, the digital image of the retina is captured in less than a second, with a small flash indicating the image has been taken. Nothing touches your eye during the process. Your Optomap retinal image is then immediately displayed for us to review with you. Experience with this technology has already led to improved disease detection and has possibly prevented vision loss and blindness in several patients.

The Optomap increases the quality of the retinal exam by allowing us to view almost the entire retina at the start of the exam, which can have important implications, not only for detecting eye disease, but also in detecting and managing other medical conditions such as diabetes. The Optomap retinal exam is a simple, quick and important way to maintain good eye health.

Due to its clinical, patient and practice benefits, the Optomap retinal exam has the potential to become part of the standard of care in practices throughout the world. In addition to its many clinical and patient benefits, the Optomap also allows Opticians to spend more time explaining eye conditions instead of looking for them.
